What is Microneedling?

If home skin treatments aren't effective, but you don't want surgical procedures, consider minimally invasive procedures for skin rejuvenation, like microneedling. Dr. Hope Short, founder of Oak Hills Med Spa & Wellness Center, is pleased to offer microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) at her office in Tyler, TX. Microneedling with the Venus Versa™ delivers nanofractional RF energy through tiny pins on the handpiece tip to create micro-injuries to the skin, which triggers the skin’s natural healing process and prompts the body's natural production of elastin and collagen, the two nutrients that increase the health and appearance of your skin. Often combined with other skin treatments, such as serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), microneedling may help reduce scars, stretch marks, and pores. Schedule a consultation at Oak Hills Med Spa & Wellness Center to hear more about the benefits of microneedling and ways to personalize your procedure for your skin needs and goals.

At Oak Hills Med Spa & Wellness Center, we recommend microneedling for people who are interested in the following benefits:

  • Low-risk, nonsurgical procedure option
  • Minimization of scar tissue, hyperpigmentation, or stretch marks
  • Balanced feel and tone of skin
  • Minimized appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and signs of aging

If you have minor skin concerns such as reduced firmness, texture irregularities, stretch marks, scars, or large pores, microneedling treatments might be beneficial for you. Results from microneedling take time to show as collagen and elastin production requires at least a month to visibly impact the skin. However, the outcome is natural-looking and promotes healthier skin overall.

Collagen induction therapy using microneedling is conducted in one of our office procedure rooms and typically takes around 30 – 60 minutes. Local anesthesia or numbing cream can be provided upon request to ensure minimal pain and discomfort for the patient. Prior to the procedure, the treatment areas are thoroughly cleansed. The microneedling handpiece is then passed evenly over the skin. Following the microneedling, additional treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or a vitamin-infused serum may be applied to enhance penetration of nutrients into the skin. A moisturizer is gently massaged into the skin, and sun protection is recommended as the treated skin may be sensitive post-procedure.

Always pleasant, professional and thorough.

How much does microneedling cost?

Dr. Short will evaluate your skin during your consultation and create your unique treatment plan. Once this is done, she will be able to explain your treatment costs and the procedure process. Oak Hills Med Spa & Wellness Center frequently offers discounts on skin treatment packages, so be sure to ask about our current deals during your appointment.

What exactly is microneedling?

Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment to tighten and rejuvenate your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps your skin stay supple, smooth, and tight. Eventually, your stores of collagen are depleted, and your skin becomes thin and loses elasticity. Microneedling makes tiny skin wounds. These micro-injuries prompt your skin to generate new skin cell growth and increase collagen production. Once healed, your skin is firmer, brighter, and healthier.

Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?

During the microneedling process, channels are created that help other treatments to reach the lower layers. This is why microneedling is frequently combined before other skin treatments, like special serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling with PRP has become known as the vampire facial. During your consultation, Dr. Short will explain which treatments would enhance your microneedling and which would most benefit your skin.
