What is Microdermabrasion?

When you run your hands over your face, does your skin feel soft and smooth or rough? If rough, the outer layer of your skin may be clogged with damaged skin cells that can make your complexion dull and uneven. At Oak Hills Med Spa in Tyler, TX, Dr. Hope Short offers medical spa services, like nonsurgical skin resurfacing using microdermabrasion. Fast and effective, microdermabrasion removes the outer layer of dead and damaged skin so your face is brighter and healthier. This procedure may be used independently or with another skin treatment, such as a chemical peel or dermal filler, for greater results. At your consultation, Dr. Short will create a unique treatment plan based on your specific skin concerns and goals.

Our Microdermabrasion Technique

Microdermabrasion is performed in our office after a thorough consultation to decide what procedures will provide the best results. For the treatment, you will relax in a comfortable chair as your skin is prepared. The handpiece will pass over your skin as the tool both polishes and vacuums the crystals and dead skin. Although the process may feel a little rough, it should not be uncomfortable so you shouldn't need a local anesthetic or numbing cream. The microdermabrasion will be applied evenly in the needed areas with more caution around the eyes. Once the treatment is complete, the skin will be cleaned to get rid of any residue before a moisturizer with sunscreen, selected for your skin's needs, is applied.

About Us
How much does microdermabrasion cost?

Your microdermabrasion cost can be discussed during your first appointment with a skincare professional. Once you talk about your goals and they examine your skin, your personal treatment plan can be created. Oak Hills Med Spa often has specials on skin treatments like microdermabrasion as well as discounted packages if you buy several sessions.

Should I get microdermabrasion, dermabrasion, or a chemical peel?

Based on your concerns and goals, a skin care professional will help you determine if microdermabrasion, dermabrasion, or a chemical peel is right for you. Microdermabrasion clears away the outer layer of damaged and dead skin cells to make your complexion look smoother and healthier. You can get these same results from a light chemical peel. Dermabrasion or a stronger chemical peel can help if your issues are in the deeper layers. The time you spend in recovery might also influence which treatment you want since microdermabrasion requires little to no downtime.

How often should I get microdermabrasion treatments?

To start, you may need 5 – 12 microdermabrasion treatments about 2 – 4 weeks apart to rejuvenate your complexion. After that, you may move to treatments every 1 – 2 months to maintain your skin's health. In your initial consultation, your technician will create a plan with recommendations for your goals that detail how often you should schedule appointments.
