Ear Piercing Techniques
There are some modern techniques to pierce ears for earrings. A standard method uses a hollow needle. First, the aesthetician marks the part of the earlobe where the earring will be inserted. Next, numbing medication is applied before a hollow needle is inserted to make the ear hole, and the earring stud is placed into the hollowed top of the needle and pulled through to the hole. The needle is then removed and the earring post remains. The earring chosen for the initial piercing typically should be hypoallergenic, preferably made of titanium, 14-karat gold, or surgical-grade steel.
Other methods involve ear-piercing instruments. One piercing device uses a spring to push the starter stud through the earlobe. Finally, there are hand clasp devices that allow the aesthetician to manually push the stud through the earlobe.
An earlobe piercing takes 4 – 6 weeks to heal. Follow these aftercare instructions carefully to avoid infection:
